Energy Efficiency

The mobile industry will experience continued growth in its total energy consumption and carbon footprint as mobile operators continue to increase their coverage, acquire more customers and develop more mobile broadband services due to market needs.

ICL Group’s key focus is to stabilise its energy consumption by improving the energy efficiency of its networks, as these represent around 80% of ICL’s total energy consumption.

All business units will focus on choosing cost-efficient energy-efficiency initiatives: network swaps, sourcing of energy-efficient technologies, infrastructure-sharing and more energy-efficient data centres and buildings.

In 2014, total energy consumption in ICL Group was approximately 3,200 GWh. The associated emission of greenhouse gases in ICL Group is estimated to a total of 1.1 million tonnes of CO2.

Environmental Management Systems have been implemented in all business units to ensure continuous improvement of the company. Further, all business units shall focus on responsible waste management and recycling activities and to ensure sufficient control over the disposal and recycling of all types of waste.

Protecting the environment is an integral part of ICL Group’s day-to-day business. Environmental Management Systems are implemented in all our Business Units to ensure continuous improvement.
