Grameenphone’s Corporate Responsibility efforts have been recognized through the Standard Chartered Bank- Financial Express CSR Award, during the 2014 ceremony.

Grameenphone recognized

Grameenphone was one of the three companies which received this one and only prestigious CSR award in Bangladesh.

Grameenphone was awarded for its Online School, Telemedicine, partnership with Special Olympics Bangladesh, and SMS based tube well maintenance project HYSAWA. Online School and Telemedicine are “Internet for All” themed projects, where quality education and health services are provided using Internet technology. The partnership with Special Olympics Bangladesh supports the mentally and physically challenged people, training them to participate in different Special Olympics sporting events worldwide.

About the award

Standard Chartered Bank- Financial Express CSR Award is a biannual program, which awards corporate bodies for their CSR initiatives. An Award committee headed by eminent Economist, Professor Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud evaluates the entries and selects the winners.

Thanking the award committee for considering Grameenphone’s CSR effort Vivek Sood said, “We focus on creating sustainable initiatives that can bring long-term value for the community and our company. Our Sustainability initiatives are built on our core competence – communications.”

This was the fifth event for this award. So far 13 companies have been awarded including this year’s winners. To be considered for this award the nominees should be a good business entity in terms of standard of business, transparency of accounts, tax payments, labor and environmental standard.
